"Cosmic Connections" Page: Living Teddy Bear

Richard Moore post "Cosmic Connections" Page: Living Teddy Bear from patreon

As often happens, this is not what I'd intended to post...nor is it in the form in which I'd intended to post it. A new stray cat has moved in under our house (again, as often happens), and after the local toms got at her while she was in heat, we had to get her spayed immediately. For various reasons, it cost me essentially three days of work time (and a lot of driving) to get this accomplished. This is why the next Boneyard short page has been pushed back 'til next week. To add insult to injury, after...

"Cosmic Connections" Page: Dino Alien

Richard Moore post "Cosmic Connections" Page: Dino Alien from patreon

If you read the other post, you know that my internet keeps going out, so I have to make this quick. This is another "Cosmic Connections" page; I'm sure you recognize part of it. I wanted to do a reptilian alien, but not the standard version, so I went with a dinosaur. When I was a kid, my favorite dinosaur was the triceratops, so that's what I went with. The tongue was the cherry on top.

Richard Moore post "Charli Rises", a Cheesecake of Horror Pinup Sketch from patreon

So again, is she a ghoul? Is she a vampire? Who knows. All I know for sure is, my internet keeps going out, so I have to keep this short or risk having this auto-post with the text cut-off mid-sentence. So enjoy greeting the day with Charli!

A Redheaded Pudgie has a Turn

Richard Moore post A Redheaded Pudgie has a Turn from patreon

I hope this piece looks okay; the only scan I have is really rough, so it took a lot of digital cleanup and repair. If you read today's other post, you know what shape my wrist is in, and I suck at typing with just my left hand, so I'm not going to say a lot about this one, except that I love how slippery she looks. I don't know if it's oil or sweat, but it looks like you'd slide right off of her. A Slip 'n' Slide for adults!

Boneyard: "The Tick" pg.2

Richard Moore post Boneyard: "The Tick" pg.2 from patreon

I got a late start on this page, then everything that could go wrong, did. Even my font files got corrupted, so I had to go find them online, download them, try to remember how to install them...  I had to ink at well past my comfortable speed, and still barely got it done in time. I didn't even have time for erasing pencil lines and doing proper corrections; I just threw it into Photoscape and applied a black-and-white filter, then did corrections digitally. There were changes I really wanted to make, but ...

Sexy Cat Alien: Cosmic Connections Page

Richard Moore post Sexy Cat Alien: Cosmic Connections Page from patreon

This, obviously, is another page from "Cosmic Connections", the adult-personals-for- aliens short that never saw print (sans text). This is one is one of my favorites: the blue cat alien from last time is the cutest, while this one is the sexiest. Mostly because of the face. I don't know how many here are ancient enough to remember late 80s and 90s "adult cinema", but there was a performer named Amber Lynn who was quite popular...especially with me. To put it simply, her face was pure sex. Looking at this page n...

Charli Lifts Off

Richard Moore post Charli Lifts Off from patreon

I lost most of last week to non-art-related business-- housework, yardwork (pants tucked into socks, and covered in tick-killing bug spray), and dealing with Social Security nonsense (the security at their office is insane; perhaps this is the downside of public shooters...?), so I only had time to do this Charli pinup sketch for Cheesecake of Horror. I really like it, though. I had done a bunch of Charli pinup roughs a few years ago, but couldn't find them until just recently. I'll be doing mo...

Pudgie has "Digital" Fun

Richard Moore post Pudgie has "Digital" Fun from patreon

One of the nice things about being a pudgie is, you don't have to have well-endowed friends to be a size queen; you just need a friendly human.

One of the things I liked about doing the pudgies series was that I often did them in pastels, which I love. I don't usually work in pastels because you can't really use fixative on them without altering the colors, so they remain smearable forever. With the chaotic storage situation in my house, pastel paintings would be doomed. But i...

Richard Moore post Boneyard Short, "The Tick", pg. 1 from patreon

A few weeks back, I felt an itch on my leg and discovered the bite in the attached photo (warning: it's kinda gross). At first I thought it was a spider bite, but after a few days it got worse, so I thought I should do some research. I discovered two things: 1) Spider bites are disgusting to look at, and B) It wasn't a spider bite. The red circle (the classic "target" pattern, as I learned) is indicative of a tick bite...specifically, the bite of a tick carrying Lyme disease (the red circle means the virus is re...

Li'l Devil Girl (Cheesecake of Horror)

Richard Moore post Li'l Devil Girl (Cheesecake of Horror) from patreon

Okay, I am officially losing it. Gray matter leaking out my ears. I had planned to post this a few weeks ago, and I was positive that I had. But unless I posted it and somehow deleted it, I'm remembering wrong.  Think about that: I can understand forgetting that I'd done some-thing, but remembering doing something that I didn't? Repeatedly? Yikes. Have any of you experienced this?

Oh, and the sketch is (obviously) a devil girl, for my "Cheesecake of Horror" series. ...

Richard Moore post Not What I'd Planned to Post, but... from patreon

Mid-week, I abandoned what I was originally going to post today (for reasons I'll go into later), and switched to something else. I wanted to do a short about something that recently happened to me, but showing how it would have gone down if it had happened to Paris. But that meant writing, storyboarding, penciling, ect. all from scratch...and around Saturday night I realized I wasn't going to make it for this week (though it will be ready for next week easily). So instead I thought I'd share the full "Cosmic Co...

Richard Moore post Am I Getting Into NFTs?!! from patreon

Of course I am! Why wouldn't I? There's money to be made! The attached image will be the first, fully authorized Richard Moore NFT. Bidding will start at $1000, and it will come with all the standard features of a non-fungible token: zero security (in fact, they are very easy to steal), no intrinsic worth, nearly impossible to re-sell, and membership in an ethically-challenged community that sees the generation of wealth as the ultimate goal in life!

I've been asked by a number of p...

Gillwoman "Cheesecake of Horror" Sketch

Richard Moore post Gillwoman "Cheesecake of Horror" Sketch from patreon

Here's another Cheesecake of Horror sketch (again, on Arches 140# hot press watercolor paper), a cute swamp creature in her native habitat. I really like the whole floating underwater thing, and I'm looking forward to painting the water. I thought I'd repost the sketch page from awhile back, showing how these things can develop from the simplest little sketches. (You can also see the booty witch from last week there, in an even cruder form.) You can see that I lengthened her torso a bit, changed h...

The Princess Enjoying Nature

Richard Moore post The Princess Enjoying Nature from patreon

It's been awhile since we've seen M'Lady, so I thought we'd check in and see what she's been up to. I guess I should've known.  (Seriously, of all people, I should have known.) What I wonder about this situation is: How long was the jester laying there like that? Was he casting a wide net, or did he specifically know the princess would be coming this way (so to speak)? After all, this isn't exactly a normal woman's reaction. And really, did she not see him there?

Richard Moore post "Forgot Her Hat", Pinup Painting Sketch from patreon

Here's a sketch, on watercolor paper, of a pinup I'm planning for the Cheesecake of Horror series. I've started blocking in the clouds just as value masses, to work out the composition, but when it comes time to paint, I will actually lift off most of the graphite with a kneaded eraser, because paint over pencil can get ugly.

This piece actually raises an issue I've been dealing with lately. If you've seen my (very) old work, you might know that I used to do mag...

Pudgie Pinup

Richard Moore post Pudgie Pinup from patreon

I think I shared one of these before. Pudgies are basically plump, nympho pixies. I don't know why, but I get a kick out of drawing their horny little antics. Simple joy in fleshly acts, and they're always so happy! This one is colored pencil over watercolor, for anyone interested.

Hellboy Commission

Richard Moore post Hellboy Commission from patreon

I'm not a big fan of artists drawing characters closely associated with one particular artist, especially its creator. They just never look right. (I've seen versions of my characters from other artists so far off the mark that I almost didn't recognize them. Then again, I've seen a few that honored the "feel" of my characters and I quite liked them, so you never know.) This commission is a perfect example. My style is a million miles away from Mike Mignola (whose work I love, by the way), but I tried to emulate...

Far West: "Under Covers" Page 3

Richard Moore post Far West: "Under Covers" Page 3 from patreon

Here we have the first adult page in the Far West short. If you look at the transitions as the story unfolds, you'll notice how I've structured them so that the adult pages can be included or not, and the story still makes sense. Of course, this is now pointless, as there is probably zero percent chance that this story will ever see print, in either version.  But it is designed that way, nonetheless.

As you can see, I decided not to post the unfinished pages with...

Richard Moore post Far West: "Under Covers" pg. 2 Completed Pencils from patreon

I shared this page at an earlier stage, and with just the penciled-in dialogue. I know I said I wouldn't be sharing advance looks at pages with visible dialogue, but you probably squinted and cursed your way through my chicken scratch when the previous version of the page appeared, so I figured what the hell.

This page is a perfect example of something I touched on recently. I had scanned it, cleaned it up digitally, and gotten as far as posting it, when I noticed that s...

Nessie Pinup

Richard Moore post Nessie Pinup from patreon

Here we have another pinup of Nessie that I could have sworn I posted here already. This was a commission, one of several for the same person, I believe. I went with gray tones, of course, to minimize any possible suckage. I do like the naturalness of the piece: Nessie, by the water, essentially in her native habitat, not so much posing sexily as just being. Even her naked body, while pleasant to look at, is not overly sexualized. At least that's how I see it.

Fairycake Pinup

Richard Moore post Fairycake Pinup from patreon

Almost did it again! I was working away on the next Far West page, with my cats bugging me to go to bed, when I happened to remember that my posts were going live shortly with no text. But I remembered!

As the title suggests, this is a piece intended for Fairycake, the collection of fairy-themed pinups I hope to do--though this piece is a little more involved than what I think of as a pinup. (Personally, I love the old, classic pinup style, with just a ...

Slamhounds Page

Richard Moore post Slamhounds Page from patreon

Here's another page from the "gladiatorial combat" (I cringe just writing that; it's such a cliche in sci fi and fantasy) scene from the Slamhounds short, "Stinger". Not much to say about this one, except to reiterate that I really wish I'd gotten to do Slamhounds. Dash is such a fun yet sad and complex character. Oh, and here's a rarity: I really like this page. (Now watch: this'll be the one page you all think sucks!)

Far West: "Under Covers" pg. 1, Pencils

Richard Moore post Far West: "Under Covers" pg. 1, Pencils from patreon

Hey, proof that I'm actually working on the Far West short! This is the mostly completed pencils for page one. I say "mostly", because I'm going to be lightly inking it, but most of the modeling will be pencil shading, and I haven't yet put in all of the shadows. When I share unfinished teasers like this, I won't normally be including the dialogue, as I want there to be impact when I share the completed page(s). But you've all been waiting so long, and I'm not ready to start inking yet, so I wanted you ...

Richard Moore post Follow the Leader, Redux from patreon

Ah, crap, I did it again. I'm taking care of a new stray cat (who has a meet-and-greet with a potential adopter this weekend!), and when I stop work to care for him, I tend to forget where I left off.  I didn't mean to post this with no text.

Anyway, this piece has a bit of a backstory. I did a painted version a few years ago, but I didn't do a color sketch first, and I've told you what usually happens if I don't work it all out beforehand. So of course I didn't like it, ...

Penciled Deja Vu Page

Richard Moore post Penciled Deja Vu Page from patreon

Here's another page from the Deja Vu one-shot, "Fall Colors". It's actually the page before the last one I posted; Deja uses the distraction of flashing her headlights to set up one of the scarecrows for a kick to the head. Because this was never published, I used the joke again in Far West: "Hole in the Head"... but in that scene, Meg's headlights had no effect on the ogre, so she had to flash the well-endowed waitress's goods to get the effect she wanted (for anyone who hasn't read it or does...

Cheesecake of Horror Design

Richard Moore post Cheesecake of Horror Design from patreon

This Cheesecake of Horror pinup design was originally going to be one of the October Sketches. It's a low value range study, but in the final, color version, she'll be a black cat. I might experiment with making her a calico, counting on the pumpkins to carry the Halloween context...but, I don't know...for Halloween I really think she needs to be a black cat. Plus, the broken, random calico pattern--orange, black, white--might interfere with the lines of the form. I'll probably try both, since one of th...

Richard Moore post An Unlettered Page from Slamhounds: "Stinger" from patreon

Here's another page from the Slamhounds one-shot called "Stinger" (as in Dash's ship). You can zoom in if you want to read the roughed-in dialogue. Actually, the series wasn't even called Slamhounds back when I did these pages. This goes back far enough that it was still called Dash, a shortened version of Dash Jumper: Ex-Bounty Hunter.  Fun fact: due to her origins (in the adult short, "Holed Up"), I considered making this an adult series. It would have been pretty much ...

During my time doing comics, my other skills have languished, to put it mildly; others I'd always wanted to develop, I never even got to try. I'm determined to fix that. So I'm finally going to be doing those Cheesecake of Horror monster girl pinups (and likely squeezing in some Beauties and Beasts pieces as well), brushing up on my painting skills (no pun intended), and hopefully learning some new ones. I'll be doing multiple versions of each, experimenting with various media and color combina...

Richard Moore post Slamhounds Cast Pinup, Pencils from patreon

I don't know if I've posted designs for the whole cast of Slamhounds, but this pinup has everyone...well, except Vengus Marr, villain of the first arc and the one who sets the whole thing in motion. My favorite character is Dash, of course, and Zez is great, too (she's such a shy sweetheart), but Batuu really stands out to me. He's the little furry critter on the front of the hoverbike. Batuu has quite the ego, and fancies himself an intellectual. That he's not taken very seriously by the rest of the crew is made evident by his nick...

Psiren Commission, Finished

Richard Moore post Psiren Commission, Finished from patreon

Yet again I forgot to do scans as I progressed to make this a step-by-step presentation. I tend to get to drawing and just keep going. Plus, the constant cat interruptions are a bit distracting. To at least give some breakdown... After penciling the whole thing (except the musical notes part), I inked the foreground, using bolder lines on Psiren's outlines, and leaving most detail and shading on the figure uninked. Then I rendered the sky (again, without the musical notes; just the clouds), using stumps and sham...
